National Drought Mitigation Center

Drought Mitigation in a Multi-Hazards Context

This two-year APA and NDMC initiative will synthesize results from bibliographic research and discussions among experts in drought and water issues to produce an online resource for best practices in technical, funding and planning guidance for drought planning in a multi-hazard frame of reference; and will include identifying specific areas where drought conditions may exacerbate flood potential. Project activities will include surveys of local practitioners, interviews with consultants and academics involved in drought and water issues, and case studies of communities and organizations that have demonstrated best practices in drought planning.  In addition to publishing an online guide, leaders of this project will offer a national training event for planners in conjunction with the 2019 APA national conference.
