Malibu fires at the end of November. Dry shrubs receiving only a few inches of rainfall this season, extremely low relative humidity (less than 10%), and high “Santa Ana” winds blowing in from the desert at more than 50 mph provided ideal fire conditions. Fortunately, dozens of fire crews were positioned in Southern California ahead of the predicted windy period, so that any fires could be controlled faster than last month’s numerous blazes.
