Two-week US Drought Monitor change was big but not biggest

November 5, 2015

Given the massive, two-week improvements across the South from Oct. 20 to Nov. 3, 2015, U.S. Drought Monitor author Brad Rippey looked at the change in the proportion of D1-D4, D2-D4, and D3-D4 for all two-week time periods. He found that the recent two-week interval didn’t set any all-time records, but broke into the top five in all three categories. Wet spells in autumn 2000, 2007, and 2013 kept the recent improvements just off the top of the charts.
